Proposed architecture (to be challenged and refined)

  • Layer 0: Forth/GA144 control plane (power, monitoring, I/O, hardware kill switch,
possible hardware allow-list enforcement), linked to the host by USB/serial.
  • Layer 1: Minimal conventional OS (e.g. minimal Linux) booting directly to a kiosk.
  • Layer 2: Metanet Desktop + Treechat auto-launched side by side.
  • Layer 3: Babbage "genius AI" via wallet/API layer.
  • Layer 4: Gradual expansion, one allow-listed service at a time.
  • Long-term: replace Layer 1 components with Forth-based ones where feasible.

Goal

Build an experimental desktop that:

  1. Powers on with a Forth-based layer in control of the hardware.
  2. Auto-boots (autoexec/kiosk style) into three base-layer environments side by side:
    a) Metanet Desktop (Project Babbage)
    b) BSV blockchain access (via the wallet, NOT a self-run node)
    c) Treechat (https://treechat.com, docs: https://docs.treechat.com)
  3. Allows NO other internet sites at first (strict allow-list; expand later).
  4. Connects Project Babbage's "genius AI" at the base layer.
  5. Uses GreenArrays GA144 chips (as many as useful) as a Forth control/IO fabric.
  6. Is secure, testable, and open source.

Constraints and known facts

  • BSV is accessed through Metanet Desktop and Treechat, not a local node.
  • Treechat is a BSV-powered social knowledge platform.
  • GA144: 144 tiny asynchronous Forth-style computers, ~64 words RAM each, programmed
with arrayForth from a host PC. It cannot run a browser, TLS, or a wallet UI.
  • colorForth/most Forth OSes lack drivers, a TCP/IP+TLS stack, and a browser engine.
  • Experimental machine must never hold meaningful funds until audited.

Treechat's docs describe it as a social knowledge platform powered by BSV. I couldn't read up on Metanet Desktop or Babbage's "genius AI", so those parts are placeholders below.

Metanet Desktop and Treechat almost certainly need a browser engine and TCP/IP with TLS, which Forth OSes don't provide. The compromise I'd suggest is a minimal conventional OS underneath for the apps, with Forth and GA144 as the control layer you own. You can shrink the conventional layer over time as your Forth skills grow.

One caution

  • No BSV node. Understood. You reach the chain through Treechat and Metanet Desktop, so I'll drop the node from the design.
  • Auto-boot into locked-down apps (autoexec style) is a good plan, and a firewall allow-list fits it well.
  • Brute-force experimentation is fine for a test environment. Keep the experimental machine separate from any wallet holding real funds.

If you've tried for 5 years without getting anywhere, I suggest this order: JonesForth, then SectorForth, then DuskOS, then colorForth. Understanding how a Forth is built will help more than reading about Forth OSes.
