New UK identity verification rules have exposed tens of thousands of companies with potentially fraudulent directors, as data from Shareflo reveals 33,675 active firms lack any director who has verified their identity. This surge in overdue filings follows mandatory ID checks introduced in November 2025, which aim to clean up the Companies House register after bogus names and stolen identities were previously used to create fake directorships.
UK companies with no UK-based directors face a 17 times higher risk of fraud compared to those with local directors, as foreign directors are often untouchable by UK enforcement.
