The Dutch intelligence agency AIVD is warning people against having confidential conversations inside or near their cars, stating that the microphones in many modern vehicles can technically be activated remotely to eavesdrop.
Certain state actors may request vehicle data from automakers and other companies, or hack systems to obtain it themselves, the agency says.
It advises avoiding wireless charging and Bluetooth or Wi-Fi pairing, using a USB data blocker, and not taking a car equipped with an external camera to a sensitive location.
