been thinking about this. one key is to finally accept that all sorts of 20th century institutions are finally giving way, in different ways. the united nations, the bretton woods accords, the european union, the world cup, the olympics, miss universe, eurovision, modernism, postmodernism . . . not gone but coopted, absorbed. the 21st century started promptly in 9-11, but it has taken a quarter century for the transformation to become apparent.

ARTIFACT 001 — THE ORIGIN FRAGMENT
The Fragment became the first tangible evidence that the First Branch was not as simple as it appeared.
It belonged to the same physical world.
Its construction belonged to the same system.
But something about its geometry could not be reconciled with the three visible continuations.
The Fragment suggested a direction that none of the known paths could explain.
That created the first persistent mystery of Chapter II:
If the First Branch produced three continuations, why does something exist that points beyond all three?
The Fragment did not answer.
It simply remained.
A physical record of something the Guardians did not yet understand.
And that meant the past could be discovered through what it left behind.
The world remembers.
