ClearI am glad you brought up the potentially infinite flat plane, because it is also my belief that this is the only way a flat Earth makes sense. Yet, very few if any flat Earthers believe this to be the case. Most have a map in mind with the arctic ice wall or the Islamic concept of the firmament.
Why is a round earth simpler and more robust? Because it follows Newtonian mechanics, ie. magnetic fields, gravitational fields, material makeups of metals and rock, cycles of water and life etc, even metaphysical properties such as 'history' and 'rebirth' embody radial properties like a circle. These are mathematically sound in a way that a flat plane is not, and can only emanate from the mind of the Divine.

Observing the curvature of the earth is very easy with modern technology. Tag a friend who lives at a different lattitude than you and measure the length of the shadow of a vertical stick at both your locations at the same time. Not only will you prove the Earth is round, but you will have fun with a distant friend, which is good for the small-world network.

The only compelling argument as to why the Earth isn't flat is this:
If the Earth is flat, then it must have been created by God. There is simply no possible other explanation for the existence of a flat Earth.
But a round Earth is more perfect than a flat Earth. It is simpler and more robust. To think that God would create anything other than a round Earth is to denounce His creation as being imperfect.

The second part about God of your argument makes sense, but why is a round earth simpler and more robust? Why is 'space' with billions of cubic light years of empty space better than a potentially infinite flat plane?
Lol wut. A compass is a 2D plane, so you could just point it 30 degrees lower than eye level and get this expected result.
