The reason baseball cards and MTG cards took off in the days long before consumer internet , and Pokémon cards later, were the non-rival and anti-rival characteristics.
it was only ink and paper, no real resource limitation, and the willingness of the creator selling more and more by the millions and spreading usage ,, where more owners create more value for each owner to play and interact with other owners. For practical purposes, the cards are not consumed either. Long after the anti-rival value is established, then limited rival value emerges.
software for the consumer internet was able to replicate these aspects . Anti-rival value dominates. There is almost no evidence that rival value can compete with anti-rival value in the digital realm. If anybody can think of an example I am incorrect, let's Discuss it
when you have a prominent characteristic of anti-rival goods , this is what takes over the internet and apps that go viral. This is scalable network effect creating greater value with each additional user and usage.
this is the opposite of a rival good. Once the prominent anti-rival characteristics are established and spreading , yes it is nice to have some rival good aspects layered on top. But you can't just put the cart in front of the horse at the outset. That will create an opposing prominent characteristic
the 5 competing social models in bsv
1 open network effect model
open social on chain like blockpost , and chat clients
i think askBitcoin also falls in this bucket with a different angle on boost
2 payments/score incentivized topic-oriented model
boardz, a traditional forum and my2cents fall in this bucket . My2cents does let user post to chain but they do not seem to have a wider plan for that
powping was here before it faded .
3 social pyramid model
this is twetch/rare candy. They have other aspects but this is the prominent. the first thing one notices when joining twetch is that that are lower than everybody else already there number-wise but it's pretty much everything they do. user content is secondary.
4 the closed sign-in content paywall model
this is lamint basically meant to be like BYOA (bring your own audience). If it works great but I am doubtful it will in spite of some slick UX
5 legacy web2 and hang other bsv interactions off it
a lot of people still use this the most - discord , Twitter . Paypistol and RelayX token (NFTs without social ) are oriented around this
also we have probably 4 different wallet models
My post below about hierarchies damaging bsv growth to boardz.
I have mostly bitten my tongue on this topic for over 3 years (unless really paying attention to stuff I say) bc I am relucant to criticize builders trying out different models. But it's year 4 for bsv coming to a close, and so I wanted to get a bit more vocal about it ...
Way too many bsv people have gravitated to social products/platforms and projects that are trying to leverage structure like hierarchies/ pyramids
This is true for a prominent one in bsv and other large nft projects. this might work out ok for the issuer, and a high percent of users join hoping to be the top of the pyramid. Then they focus their energy climbing their position. What everybody misses is that this is WHY bsv does not grow. This is illiteracy of economic and network theory at work .
The essence of the problem when for instance you build a social network that focuses on trading low user numbers for status or limited air drops, or an nft project build around holding rarities, this is artificially creating what is known as Rival Goods. This might be fine for driving up prices. Applying any decent understanding of network theory and economic theory, this is a horrible product characteristic that will prevent the viral growth that takes the internet by storm. Rival goods are the death of the organic boundless growth that is necessary to grow BSV .
Rival goods are the ONLY thing bsv’s non-scalable competitor chains can do well. So like a bunch of idiots, people have been focusing on replicating the sole characteristic of goods that bsv can’t out-do other chains about. Rather bsv businesses should be building products and services that not molded and bent into having prominent “ rival” characteristics. NFTs can do any. Social content can do any. Abundant goods, more information, more participation, boundless usage, these things allow bsv to distinguish itself from all the high cost non-scalable garbage of other chains. nice job boardz on this
WHAT'S THE NEWS, EVERYBODY
if you love blockpost like I do smash the like button
just switch to it via bitchat classic or retrofeed and post in it
first post records the channel on-chain
would be cool to issue NFTs for each channel creator (first to post in it)
hm yeah that's the consensus position
basically intentionally scheduled to limit the rising labor movement
