in the first half of my career I was writing code consistently most years. I spent almost 8 years as a Principal SW engineer being purely code developer. In a big company, a few things happen.
First you tend to move into lead roles and get promoted up to guide wider activities. Code work gets moved to less senior engineers. Big companies send more code work to India and China and other places.
The top roles in new development get increasingly political. Existing products get focused on problem solving. Preferring the latter, I still debug code often and work on code problems. Anyway, it's been about 15 years since I was writing code. But I am starting to look at getting into it again

Proud to be part of the bsv project in which I trusted since day 0. So many smart and serious mates working to make it strong and long lasting.
