Said this over on twetch. good point ☺️

BParadigm 5.5y

I haven’t looks at Solana for 3 minutes.
I hear 2 things-High TPS, Global state

here is the problem with that

It’s the difference between aggregate scale and concurrent scaling.

Scale without having good concurrency is contention.

Not worth shit

The funny thing was my project aim had similarity to social networking at a mechanical level before anybody had done it. But I missed the most important aspect, which was to raise the concept up into the UX. It was the UX of social networking that caught fire, as it exposes and interacts with the users' ego. It makes the user conscious of having an online public self , that might be beloved and popular or totally ignored, for everyone one to see which. This is ego heroin to young people. My concept of UX was overly private and holistic, more interested in what you wanted to see and do ( as if that mattered lol)

It figures I would miss the main thing since I was a software egghead in those days . we wrote code - The code might tell users stuff, give them info, let them know how to do stuff. There was no wide school of thought that considered "how does the software make users feel", let alone embracing the concept of manipulating them with it, now widely embraced as 'gamification'

I tried to launch an open distributed computing project in my apartment in 2001, 2002

this was well before social networks. I didn't know anybody who would work with me and didn't know how to go about finding capable like-minded people online. This led to eventual quitting the idea. By 2003 I got really busy with my job again anyway.

The internet for tech was online pubs and working groups, news trade rags, stock message boards, and clowns commenting in communities like slashdot.

Most techies of the era were into Linux preoccupied with disrupting MS Windows or mobile markets. I couldn't care less. I had been working in BSD for several years by then. Linux was a big Yawner in general to me. They failed anyway. Apple started with a BSD core for their iOS and took over the world with it

Cloud hegemony happened because cloud began as the commoditization of compute value.

Payment processing and all in-line value transfer has remained premium value , a tightly guarded market.

same for other premium services like security / key and cert infrastructure .

same for document control and signature services and compliance

These services are sold at costs >1000x their raw commoditized compute costs

Bitcoin totally disrupts commoditized value by its integration of high value services , leading to better value prop largely disassociated with the compute and storage economics that have dominated the last 15 years that Cloud existed .

There is easily over 100,000 commercial grade well-electrified power-AC computers rooms just in the USA

In fact they are increasingly underutilized as more work has moved to large hyper-scale class centers.

Anybody can lease a bit of space in well over 1000 different locations just in the US. As well as rent gear on site from 100s of companies. All the big telcos do it but hundreds of small businesses do too.

I am against AWS , goog, apple , msft and Fb hyper-scale hegemony and any good Bitcoin architecture can counter it by adding to the value side of the equation rather than the cost side.

However, Why would we need to decentralize further than those numbers I just listed ?

In my mind BSV is most disruptive in its ability to peel away economic value, top down.

from computing point of view , this means that it pulls high value workload, which carries greater economic inertia. The idea is that over time even AWS is disruped, not because it was obsoleted or replaced, but because AWS is where you still run your most garbage low value workloads . AWS gets left with all the high-cost no-money-in-it work, where the higher value work has moved away.

stay wary of people who pretend to speak for the decentralized yet don't acknowledge that irony

Key · blockpost.network

so say in 5 five years bsv has become widely successful , along comes a new small business and a small app , yes they are likely paying somebody who is running one of those middle layer deployments for api services.

there is nothing unexpected about that outcome. I still believe the value prop and expense economics of bsv systems will remain far superior to alternatives

the ideological people in bsv seem to want very vertically-flat collapsed architecture. For some reason, they are hostile to the idea that Taal in particular might end up selling such services. But there will be others.

Taal happens to be only one with the resources to push out this stuff to create the market. Others will wait for the market and clarity about needs, assuming the demand actually happens . It's not worth fretting over.

Oh concomitant , use a big word and blow it lol

Key · blockpost.network

A successful business on chain in the future can write a $500,000 check no problem, or amortized leased/rented as expense over the 3-5 year , same end cost

The problem some have with businesses that might do that is that it doesn't fit their ideology

So they rule it out. Then yeah , there is a scale problem that people can't solve the problem by spending the dollars necessary

Ita like we want a backyard in-ground swimming pool. They're standing there with two shovels. Yeah it's a hard problem .

But if you bring in heavy equipment it's trivial . It's simply a matter of a phone call and paying money necessary to get an in-ground swimming pool .

Same as BTC but repeating one layer up in the stack

Key · blockpost.network

Breaking stuff economically then being the guys who have a fix for only achieving a subpar system - that sounds a lot like the games that BTC guy's played

its precisely why I was the most hot of anybody (except csw) about the whole 0-sat outputs .

In my mind, I am rolling forward to the days when the BSV businesses have 1M users and these companies have the money to deploy the middle layer scale to make BSV apps to run as I described in prior post.

The fear of that was that it would enable actors to load up the network without comcomitant economic benefits that actual fund truly solving the scale issues with actual $$$ horsepower .

We need to be very wary of these twitter clowns who appear to hold antipathy toward a hypothetical business that might deal with scaling by directly funding the solution themselves over time- If they achieve 1 Million paying users, the business will likely have the funds to write those checks .

I see these people as looking to kill any successfully-functioning normal business from ever arriving on chain by breaking BSV system's actual economic fuel early in its use infancy, and doing so in the name of being its savior - WHICH IS EXACLTY WHAT WAS ALREADY DONE IN BTC

Do you get the idea that some people don't understand you can pick up the phone , write a check and have a 1M TPS system installed in 2 weeks? Or if you want a high end 10M TPS system it might be 30 days?

or do they just act like it's not an option to fool people about their own importance ?

The politics of computing.

Computing has ideologies. A few are in BSV advocating architectures that fit their ideology. Just behind them is a chorus of people who want to agree with them as if that somehow adds merit.

When somebody in BSV says there is a scaling problem and what needs to be done to solve it, it's always some other thing way outside current computing norms. This makes it sound either difficult or some future mountain to climb. The chorus eagerly looks to the master to deliver on it.

These self-styled architects across crypto are absurd and it’s not very different in BSV. In BSV, its because the transactional node is only part of stack. There's a lot of open space in the middle.

I spot the ideological thinking because 20 years ago that was literally me- I was saying, thinking, and even developing projects exploring the same stuff. My perspective is a lot wiser now.

People should just aim to build stuff basic and see it work, while keeping a mind toward the future. If the network hits a growth spurt in popularity, hope you're stuff among what is popular. This would likely provide more resources to deal with scale.

only an enterprise would build something day 1 to never break and there really aren't any of those in BSV yet.

say BSV hits 10000x growth in usage , so the nodes is actually averaging 100,000 TPS instead of 10 TPS . my opinion is the people will have built middle layer compute architectures that has horsepower of a 1M TPS system. My employer deploys this scale of system to customers every single day. A 1M TPS middle layer is going to solve a ton of so called Bitcoin scaling problems.

I do believe that Bitcoin offers potential to transform computing architectures, not just to be a service to the apps using it. It's one reason I got into BSV.

Centbee Review

Centbee is a payment ecosystem company that is based in South Africa and that is developing a number of products for payments and remittances on the Bitcoin SV blockchain. Centbee offers a wallet that makes it convenient for users to store, spend and send Bitcoin (BSV) safely on their mobile phones. The app is available on the Google Play Store and App Store. Centbee doesn’t offer a desktop version of the Centbee wallet app.

Overview

  • Users can still send Bitcoin SV to someone who doesn’t have a Centbee Wallet by simply sending the crypto to the recipient’s Bitcoin SV (BSV) receive address or scanning their Bitcoin SV QR code.
  • Users can use Centbee from anywhere in the world as long as they have a smart-phone with a SIM card. Centbee is based in South Africa and some of their ‘Top-up’ features currently only work in South Africa.
  • Centbee also helps users set up merchant accounts and ensure that receipts are private, and settled daily into the user’s South African bank account.
  • Centbee offers a remittance service called Minit Money with the aim of facilitating cross-border payments instantly for under $1 per transaction.
  • A Centbee wallet only works on one mobile phone at a time so it can’t be shared across multiple devices. Centbee wallets can be backed up using a 12-word backup phrase if you lose a device or simply want to move your wallet to a different device.
  • Centbee has a service called Paymail which allows users to send Bitcoin SV to paymail addresses. These look like regular email addresses, instead of complicated Bitcoin SV addresses. If you like this content for example you can send me some BSV to my address it’s: 14jLGJuKY1ZS32svhEYg9zRmQYNGwm6rrP and my Paymail is: hm@centbee.com
  • Users can also use Contact Pay which is a service from Centbee that allows users to stay connected and send Bitcoin SV to their contacts, family & friends, anywhere, anytime, using their mobile number, paymail address, and $handles. For example, my handle is $heathmuchena
  • Topping up your Centbee wallet using a local currency such as the South African Rand (ZAR) means that a user has to complete the KYC verification process. This process was quite frustrating for me as I kept getting errors and not quite sure if it’s a problem on the KYC service provider they use called liveness or an issue on the part of Centbee.

I have had a Centbee wallet for quite some time and I think what they are bringing to the crypto space is sophisticated yet seamlessly integrated into legacy payment systems, bridging the gap between the old and the new by finding a scalable use case and promoting the use of Bitcoin (SV) for everyday payments. Centbee and Bitcoin SV demonstrate the use case for fast peer-to-peer electronic cash payments at the lowest fees conceivable.

The Centbee top up feature is available in over 150 countries. All a user needs to do is download the Centbee app and top up their wallet with Bitcoin SV using a credit or debit card directly in the app. The wallet is loaded within seconds. A user can simply click the ‘top up’ option on the wallet menu then select a country, choose whether they want to use a debit or credit card to top up. The amount has to be above US$69.48 to top up using fiat. Once the user confirms payment details and greenlights the payment, the equivalent Bitcoin SV will be credited to their wallet.

Users can also send their Bitcoin SV that they purchase from another crypto exchange e.g. OKEx, Upbit, Huobi, FTX, or KuCoin and store it in the Centbee wallet, use it for making purchases and earning Bitcoin SV Honey rewards.

Centbee also has another offering called ScanPay which makes it possible for merchants to accept payments using their mobile devices easily. It’s an easy-to-use app that staff can navigate effortlessly.

In order to settle transactions in the merchant’s local currency and limit the merchant’s exposure to digital currency price volatility, Centbee converts the local currency price to Bitcoin SV, and then immediately converts the Bitcoin SV received to local currency for day-end deposit to the merchant’s bank account. Centbee also has reasonably low cash withdrawal fees.

Why Bitcoin SV?

Bitcoin SV (BSV) has the goal of fulfilling the original vision of the Bitcoin protocol and design as described in Satoshi Nakamoto’s white paper. BSV offers scalability and is spurring the use of Bitcoin as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system as well as facilitating the growth of enterprise-level advanced blockchain applications within its ecosystem.

Bitcoin SV does not have artificial block size limits and can process tens of thousands of transactions per second while also managing to maintain minute transaction fees that are almost negligible and all of this is done on-chain, bringing transparency and still affording users their privacy. This year (2021), the BSV network mined the world’s first gigabyte (1000+ megabytes) level blocks which reached up to 2 GBs in August 2021. It is expected to continue to grow and accommodate more transactions per second. Currently Bitcoin SV is capable of handling more than 100,000 transactions per second.
