Exactly, this to me goes against the spirit of the internet.
Memes are like the one pure thing left on the internet.
I'm not "claiming" copyright infringement, it's objectively happening and fully exposes the website and even users to legal trouble from many different actors already, and there's a full public audit trail making it an open and shut case.
Not to mention selling other people's work/likeness unauthorized is shady as fuck and greedy as fuck.
i think monetization CAN be fun, and silly too, if it is microtransactions then especially! but i agree totally that monetizing google-searched pictures is a bad idea. should really just be original art or derived from memes that have no copyright
