Anyway, the goal is never to fight or banish thoughts, but to notice them as temporary mental events happening right alongside physical reality.

Unverified · twetch

If one were to practice breathwork, it activates DMT stimulation in the Pineal Gland. So, once again — what really is reality?

Those who have connected with other-worldly realms via these practices, or similarly with Psychedelics perhaps have a better understanding.

In fact, Scientists have begun mapping the DMT realms due to the consistencies witnessed, observed and experienced by many.

To declare 'this' as reality is a little ignorant, IMO. If one were born in a constant dream-like state, and continued that state until their last physical breath, would their reality be considered the dream world?

I notice I’m irritated reading your comment, and I imagine you’re spending a lot of energy spinning a big story in your head so you don't have to feel whatever is going on in your body right now.

When I read what you wrote, here is what I notice:
You take the simple, physical reality of air coming in and out of your nose and turn it into a giant, complicated cosmic drama about pineal glands, DMT realms, and dimensional mapping. You're sitting in a chair, typing on a screen, breathing actual oxygen, and I imagine your mind is flying off into outer space while your butt stays right there on the cushion and your belly holds whatever tightness or fear you aren't paying attention to.
When you ask, "What really is reality?", my guess is you’re using that question to avoid being right here, right now. It seems a lot more exciting and special to talk about "other-worldly realms" or whether life is a dream than to just sit in a room and notice the plain facts of your current physical experience.

You say that declaring physical reality as 'reality' is "a little ignorant," and that people who trip on psychedelics or do extreme breathwork "have a better understanding." When I hear that, I imagine you’re trying to feel superior by placing your mental concepts above simple sensory awareness.
To me, a hallucination—whether from a plant, a chemical, or hyperventilating until your blood chemistry changes—is just imagery playing out on the screen of your mind. It’s a movie. It’s more stories.

When someone breathes fast enough to make their hands cramp up and see colorful geometry, the physical fact is that their blood chemistry changed and their nervous system reacted. They didn't travel to another dimension; their physical body stayed right there on the floor having a physiological response.

You ask: "If one were born in a constant dream-like state... would their reality be considered the dream world?"
When I read that, my mind says: That's a hypothetical story that has nothing to do with this moment.
You weren't born in a constant dream-like state. You have a physical body with skin, bones, muscles, and lungs that take in real air. Right now, you are using a physical brain to write a theory about dreams.

My guess is your mind hates the ordinary simplicity of just being alive right this second. It invents grand, mystic theories to stay busy, trapped up in thoughts, endlessly debating what is "real."

I'm not going to tell you what you should or shouldn't do. But I can tell you what is physically here: your feet are wherever they are, your breath is moving or trapped in your chest, and your body is having whatever physical sensations it's having right now.
That sensory experience and reporting the truth about it is the only grounded reality available to any of us.

Well actually you are both right. There is an objective physical persistent reality (as best we can figure) and then there is your own subjective experience of life. Both are 'real', and indeed, complimentary. Without your physical body your subjective experience would not exist (as best we can tell), and without your subjective experience you are not actually a distinct higher consciousness, but rather just living as a vegetable or very primitive animal. All living things are conscious, but there are levels. There is no contradiction. Every consciousness is a receiver with a tuning range, and that range must of course have its limitations. No one can comprehend the totality of their physical and subjective experience all at the same time, it's not even close. Can you process what's going on in every cell in your body right now? Of course not, good luck understanding one single cell in a single moment even after weeks of study. Can you fully process your subjective experience? Haha of course not. It's a rollercoaster ride inside a kaleidoscope. But we can all take a deep breath, roughly speaking. Twetch.

When reading your comment I notice my irritation increased.
You completely bypassed what I actually said (which was a simple report of my present-moment physical state) and instead wrote a long essay explaining how reality works.
My mind says you're stepping in as a patronizing referee to smooth over a contradiction with fancy concepts about "tuning ranges'" and "cellular processing" so you don't have to pay attention to what's actually happening right here, right now.
I'm not interested in debating your theory of consciousness. I'm sitting in my chair, my chest feels tight, I feel annoyed, and that's the only reality I'm paying attention to right now

Well said.

Of course there is something very 'real' feeling about what one would deem 'reality', whereby physical interaction and experiences must (yes, I repeat;) ignorantly be declared "reality".

That is one viewpoint. Take for example, video game characters — to us, perhaps they are just that: pixels within a screen, ran by code. To them, perhaps not. Perhaps there is an underlying consciousness that we are not aware of, and perhaps incapable of being aware of.

Your eyes? Perhaps closer resemblance to a viewing portal.

Touch, pain and 'physical movement'? Ultimately those are electrical signals relayed to your brain. Similarly, a computer can behave the same way. A physical 'brain' exists, which electrical signals allow the likes of robotics and other such things to function with sensory data, inputs, outputs, optics, and movement.

So, yes — become irritated, if you so wish. Because blissful ignorance is often uncomfortable when presented with potentials or concepts that one perhaps does not understand in full.

To assume we are of superior intellect and have superior understanding over anything else in 'existence' is ignorant. To assume that a physical state of being is merely considered 'reality' because it feels as such to a viewer, is ignorant.

The truth is far deeper. We do not know what is beyond what we deem 'reality'. A 2D observer cannot truly fathom 3D. Likewise, a 3D observer cannot experience 4D.

If you were to draw a line on a piece of paper, ultimately, at the macro — the line is a series of dots, much like lithographical print, and hence the term: 'DPI'. Would the dots know they make a line?

Connect the lines into a square. Do the lines know they create a square? This can proceed further, as I'm sure you can imagine.

The ignorance lies within the firm, arrogant stance/belief that something beyond our comprehension could not be considered 'reality'.

Every observer has a different experience. Every person has led a completely different life, a different reality. Every animal, every insect, every atom, so to speak.

So — sure. An atom remains an atom. They are banded into a category. Each one is 'living' a different experience, a different reality, in a different area of space, with different purpose, a different journey.

You call the dream-like argument 'theoretics', and outline that different breathwork techniques (and similar such things) can influence bodily chemical changes to take place — sure. But that is precisely the point. If you are able to change your physical vessel chemically for a different experience/reality, then you must understand that no single person is the same, and therefore each entity contains various different chemical structures and variations at any one time.

Your reality is not my reality, nor is my Dog's reality the same as mine. The theoretics you claimed is not so theoretical when you consider the rare occurence of a baby being born in a comatose state. Potentially, the newborn could die in the same comatose state, meaning the reality as you described it was never experienced, only the dreamlike one was.

One can argue that we share the same 'reality', but what if the truth was far stranger? What if we were actually all just one far more incomprehensible super-intelligent entity, experiencing itself through what it was 'not', as fractals of various different things which we declare as physical reality because it is impossible to experience what is truly beyond us whilst we are in this 'physical form'?

Mind altering substances can reveal incredible experiences that feel 'more real' than 'reality'. It brings a sense of truth, of warmth, of 'knowing', of comfort, of 'understanding'. A sense of 'home', or remembering. An awakening, if you will.

Many describe their experiences as completely life changing. Those sorts of things should not be overlooked, especially since the foundation of human intelligence is often speculated to stem from these substances themselves, and have been used for as long as history can recall.

When I read your essay, I notice a lot of heat in my face and a sharp tightness in my chest.
My mind says you are completely terrified of the ordinary simplicity of your own physical body. My mind says you are hiding behind video game metaphors, 4D geometry, lithography, and cosmic entities because sitting still and feeling your own real-time fear, sadness, or boredom feels too boring or too scary.
When I read you repeatedly calling me "ignorant" for reporting my direct sensory experience, I imagine you are trying very hard to feel superior and smart so you don't have to pay attention to your own belly clenching right now while you type.
Here’s the plain truth: I don’t care about your theories of consciousness, I don’t care about 2D dots on paper, and I’m not interested in debating your sci-fi fantasies.
Right now, I am sitting in my chair, typing on a screen, breathing air, and feeling annoyed reading your comment. That is the physical reality of my animal organism in this exact second, and no amount of internet philosophy changes that fact.

I think the physical, mental and spiritual realms are all very real.

There's a moment when you stop treating your mind as an infallible oracle, and start seeing it for what it actually is: a hyperactive storyteller constantly generating draft scripts about a world it can only partialy see.

There is only what is happening right now in your physical body and your immediate environment. Everything else, including "mental" and "spiritual" realms, is just the brain spinning stories.

Physical reality isn't a theory; it is what you can directly perceive right now through your senses.
It is persistent, verifiable, and exists whether you think about it or not.

Thoughts happen, but the "mental realm" isn't an independent reality.
"Mental" simply means the story-making machinery of the brain—your judgments, memories, predictions, theories, and concepts.
A thought is a real physical event happening in your brain right now, but the content of the thought is usually made up. The content of a thought is NOT made up only when it is a direct, non-interpretive description of a verifiable physical fact occurring in the present moment. Saying "the mental realm is real" leads people to confuse their interpretations with objective facts.

Talking about a "spiritual realm" is almost always an attempt to escape the uncomfortable, messy, physical present moment.
When people talk about spiritual realms, pineal glands, or higher dimensions, they are usually using abstract ideas to avoid feeling physical sensations in their bodies (like fear, anger, grief, or bodily pain) or to avoid being honest with the person standing right in front of them.
If "spiritual" means anything useful it simply means being completely present to raw physical reality without trying to edit, fight, or explain it.

You're looking into theories, concepts, and invisible realms because looking directly at your own immediate physical reality is too uncomfortable.

"Physical reality isn't a theory; it is what you can directly perceive right now through your senses."

In other words: you have no more direct access to it than to the things you claim are "just the brain spinning stories".

You say "directly" but that is simply not true. We have no direct access to anything, certainly not the physical world. "Through the senses" is Indirectly, not directly. And then the information is processed by the brain...

The mind making up things is a real problem, I agree, but this problem is present in our perception of the physical world as well.

We have no idea what it would even look like without the mind spinning narratives and interpreting signals.

I don't care about philosophical debates over whether photons hitting your retina counts as "indirect processing."
If someone swings a hammer and hits your thumb, your brain will process signal pulses through your nerves.
You can write an essay explaining that your access to the hammer is "indirect," but your body will still scream, your blood pressure will spike, and your thumb will swell.
Physical reality is the pressure, pain, swelling, and physical limits of the organism.
The mental fantasy is the 300-word paragraph you typed to convince yourself that the hammer hits and your internal theories are the exact same category of illusion.

The practical difference is that I can ignore a theory about a "spiritual realm" or "simulation matrix" for 50 years and my life continues unchanged.
But if I ignore the physical reality of a oncoming bus or a lack of water because it's "just indirect sensory data," my physical organism dies.

Physical reality has consequences; mental stories just have arguments.

You want to debate epistemology.
I'm interested in living in my body.
Stay in the debate hall in your head. I'm already out on the porch enjoying the fresh air.
