If I were reliant on society for food and shelter I would care a lot about the state it is in. I for sure would be very grateful and not bitter if I had no other choice but to ask for it’s help.

But no, you don’t like that, why should you pay to protect the town when I won’t. Your community decides that to live in your town you have to chip into the security costs. Now you have birthed government and taxes. I get your point of course but don’t be blinded by our broken systems. The foundations of human civilisation are sound.
