you are basically paying for the hash
to prove the image you bought is the image that was advertised

So you mean this doesn't actually mean owning the on-chain content itself, right?

How do you "own" anything that is on a public blockchain?

It is basically in the public domain,
If you encrypt it
only the hash and timestamp becomes relevant really

If you cannot pick up your ball
and take it home so nobody else can play with it
is it really your ball ?

Answer is no…
NFT tech really just lets you claim who currently owns the token, and that’s about it.

This is a bad analogy.
The ball is only yours if you are in a system which rules allow you to do that, meaning that it will punish those who try to violate them, or you are the strongest person in the field.

First time hearing that. So they’re basically doing the same thing again?

no, back then it was some kind of geocaching. relics were place on an earth map and when you pass by you could pick it up or something like that. nice idea but then they rugged.

They're changing their tactics left and right, aren't they?
