Remember when CWS said adding privacy, eliminating ability to do chain analysis, and doing mixers was crucial to bitcoin and he was about to release it?

Nah, that was me. Still am.

Anyway, this was a strange period just prior to the final BCH bitcoin depredation.
There was another video where Craig detailed one such possibility. It had nothing to do with mixers or funging up the core protocol.

Hint: IPv6 in that example.

Nuther Hint: After the final split, one the first things Craig started explaining about bitcoin that no one ever got, was what the true intent of SPV was all along.

CSW may have been in full-on troll mode at that point.

What are your thoughts on that topic?

I was convinced by his argument for privacy and against anonymity.

Anonymous coins would take the risk (money handover) out of a lot of crimes.

I like the option to have both.

Fair enough.

So far I have never heard a good argument on how to deal with the fact that kidnapping and extortion would lose most of their risk with anonymous coins becoming wide spread.

But maybe it's just a trade off.

Yeah it's an important point. But we have lots of stuff today and through history that is equally hard to trace, and people tend to find innovative solutions more adaptable than blanket trace-ability 100% of the time baked in.

Issac, privacy is different from anonymity, and accountability is different from surveillance.

I agree. But CSW was explicitly endorsing things he explicitly denounces now, less than two years later.

arguably CAAL funded handcash already does mixing when you send

and he is right that a huge transaction volume makes you more anon

but yeah

Many of us got into bitcoin because we wanted monero.

Maybe Roger Ver had some influence on him during that time. Or he thought it would help BCH win more adoption against BTC. CSW has been mostly consistent from what I can see with some blunders like you point out. I believe we must go off of the now.
