In that case, it's the attention that is being rewarded, NOT the valuable content.

The signal is "come get this good thing," and the result is you pay, but may get a good thing, or may find your payment is food for a "predator" in that system.

No value to you, but you paid the price anyways.

Predator lives on, profitably.
