Many a scientist has been forced out of their profession or to remain silent because of groupthink. Observations refuting current paradigm are routinely ignored or denied.

Isaac Newton performed experiments on light and showed it to be made of particles. Thomas Young's light experiment showed that light is a wave. Now quantum theory tell us it's both. Which of these is a fact?

Scientists start with preconceived ideas, develop a theory; test it. The theory may work, until new observations contradict the theory. Their beliefs now cause them to deny the observations, or perform contortions with the theory to force it to the facts.

The 'belief' comes in when you believe that worker owned means of production is going to be effective.

In the great depression my grandparents bought a chicken farm because, as my grandfather said "at least we'll have eggs to eat". And that's what they did. Many a meal was just eggs and lettuce that they grew.
