Hard to imagine today, but there was a time not so long ago when ancient Greek and Latin were the basis of higher education.

I studied biblical Greek and Latin in university because my major was theology. Also some Hebrew.
That was about 10 years ago, can't remember anything I learned. Maybe I should start learning Latin again... 📖
I studied philosophy, so at a certain point you either choose to study Greek & Latin or German & French depending on what period you want to specialize in.
German was an option for me too, being Lutheran and all. I took some German in 5th and 6th grade, so I know the basics, but decided to go with Latin. Greek and Hebrew were compulsory for everyone studying theology.
That’s intentional.
The Latin that is now learned in law schools used to be learned in like 9th grade
