Hi! I'm from Japan 🇯🇵
Question for international travelers: If you visit Japan, would you use taxis? If not, why?
I'm working to introduce stablecoin payments to Japan's taxi industry for the first time. I'd love your feedback!

One of my favorite parts of visiting Tokyo is using the trains. The effort that goes into the engineering and maintenance is amazing.

Thanks for your feedback!
Is there any reason you don't use taxis? Is the language barrier and difficulty communicating with the driver one of the reasons?

It's usually cost. I can understand some Japanese so language isn't a big problem for me. Speaking is more difficult because I have a southern accent (the american equivalent of a Kansai accent) that probably sounds weird to a Japanese person.

Your app is a good idea. A foreigner hailing a taxi late at night has probably been out partying all night and would help make a smoother experience for everyone involved haha.

Since prices in the U.S. are generally higher than in Japan, I thought taxis in Japan might seem relatively affordable.
You can take a taxi in Japan starting from about $4.31. The fare then increases based on the distance traveled.
I also wonder if paying with cash makes some travelers nervous because they don't know how much the final fare will be.
That's why I was thinking that if people could pay with USDT, USDC, or JPYC, they might feel more comfortable using taxis without worrying about payment.

I would probably use what the locals use

I see. 🤔 Thank you!
Is there any particular reason you wouldn't take a taxi?

I want the local experience as well. When I was in Japan I definitely used it because I didn’t know where the train and bus stops were. It was really fun now that I think about it. Would be cool if I could pay with BSV. The self opening doors started me lol.

Wait... your taxi doors don't open automatically?! 😲
Actually, in Japan, there's a lever next to the driver's seat. The driver operates that lever to open and close the rear passenger door!
It would be great if BSV could be used for payments. The unfortunate part is that it's still difficult to get hold of.
I always thought international tourists preferred to walk around and explore because that's part of the fun of traveling.

Thanks! I'm just not sure if tourists from overseas actually use taxis when they travel in Japan.

Do you usually pay by card or cash?
If taxis accepted stablecoins, do you think that would be convenient?

How would you feel about paying for taxi rides with stablecoins while traveling abroad? Would you find it stressful or inconvenient?
