The flagship feature of twetch is its feed but it currently forces a bunch of BSV schizo content to all users. There’s no escaping it and it’s intimidating af for ppl to even experiment with the platform because of its current setup.
Let people choose what conversations (communities) they want to be a part of right off the bat. They should decide if they even want their posts displayed to everyone on the platform. Why make that default and the only option.
If I was a CU boulder student just wanting to connect w my friends or other CU students I don’t want Sabroshi, Randy, Rod Sirloin and some other Twetch randos chiming in on the global feed.
Global feed should be like an expert mode setting. Twetch could be a blank canvas interface and everyone can decide exactly how they want to use it.
This opens up everything. BTC or any community being able to come and leverage Twetch w/o being bombarded by BSV bullshit. ppl can manage their own communities and restrict entry however they want.
Imagine Twetch if any community other than BSV took it over first lol.
Look at the network effect science behind how the identity of first adopters can effect the growth of innovative products and technologies.
Twetch is a victim of this.
“ Smaldino and colleagues modeled adoption when using something becomes a social marker—meaning adoption signals membership in a particular group. They found that when groups want to distinguish themselves from one another, an innovation becoming associated with one group can delay or suppress adoption by the other group, even when the innovation itself is beneficial. They call the mechanism “outgroup aversion.””
Twetch gets discovered by BSV people → BSV people create most of the content/social norms → using Twetch begins to signal “BSV person” → outsiders perceive joining Twetch as joining a BSV community rather than simply trying a social product → some outsiders don’t experiment → the existing community becomes even more disproportionately BSV.
