What if consciousness can be turned off and on here, and that prevents anything conscious from extreme suffering (Either by removing the consciousness from the body entirely forever, leaving an unconscious "husk" behind, or simply removing it during the suffering and then re-inserting it afterwards, leaving only the memory, if that was bearable for the experiencer)

Many people could say "Yes, I experienced extreme suffering" but it could just be a memory - wherein they went elsewhere while the extreme suffering was happening, and were seamlessly put back into their bodies after it was over with no knowledge it had happened
Funny you should say that — I have always had a theory that is something along the lines of the following:
If consciousness never dies and we're considered 'conscious', what actually happens during a death? Do we truly 'die', does consciousness just shift states, does it switch to another host unknowingly, does it simply switch to a 'dormant, idle' position and wait for something?
Does being 'unconscious' technically mean "temporarily dead"? Does being asleep technically also mean "dead"?
Take for example, our reality is what we perceive around us, but what if what we percieve as a dead being, simply shifted some sort of conscious timeline and is continue to 'live' an alternative life where everything is normal in their reality, it is only ours that has changed?
I've often wondered if near death experiences or life-changing, serious accidents are examples of that. Did the person in a near-fatal accident actually die in another reality?
It is also fascinating that many experiences within astral or psychedelic/DMT realms are often extremely difficult to memorise, almost as if you there is some sort of 'force' or underlying physics which means we simply are not permitted to bring specific information back into this 'reality'.
You raise some interesting points, that is for sure. I don't think we were ever meant to actually ever truly understand this world, and I don't think it is possible to fathom what intelligence we actually reside within, given that we are potentially a fractal of it, and cannot be 'greater than' it, giving a perspective which allows us to understand it.

It is a similar question to:
If I were to write a trail of a small dots on a piece of paper, essentially so close that they are touching and form a line — if the dots were conscious, could they fathom the existence of the line? Perhaps, to an extent.
If the line were connected to other lines, forming shapes, cubes, or 3D objects, would the conscious dot be able to understand or fathom those, or the very existence of whatever it was that created (or brought life to) the dots and lines in the first place?

That brings me to my final conclusion, have you ever seen the DMT Laser Experiment?
