As for ownership - the people are not owned by their gov - they are in partnership with their gov.

Okay... maybe so, to some degree. So the next question must be whether or not the partnership is fair and mutually beneficial.
If you don't like the partnership arrangement here are your options:
- Leave it
- Get enough partners (citizens) and change it
- Complain
So you are consciously aware that governments believe they own their people. And you are okay with that idea.

That is not true. A partnership is a state of cooperation for mutual interest, and it thus implies equal footing. Governments are monopolistic on this planet, and that is why I don't think partnership is accurate. Not liberal BS either. We are property.
