my mother won't even come out of her room. since this began, she has missed birthdays, holidays, and won't even visit her family a block away from her. and don't you dare believe she isn't "smart". she has been a teacher all her life and is almost 70.

Average age of those who die of covid is 78. So yes, it is actually smart to protect yourself if you are an elder.

It is common sense for the vulnerable to quarantine themselves and avoid contact with others. Not so for healthy people under 60.
