I like Lionel Robbins' classic definition of #economics--"the science which studies human behaviour as a relationship between ends and scarce means which have alternative uses"--but it opens for misinterpretation, esp. by those trained in modern economics.

#Economics proper is about 'optimizing' the economy as much as physics is about figuring out a more efficient structure for the universe. Economics is about understanding what is (its nature), what caused it, and how to understand the underlying processes.

For #economics to again become useful, it needs to move beyond its current focus on production management, in which #efficiency is attained by reducing waste in the existing system, to #entrepreneurship, which creates new value by expanding the system.

What causes #poverty? Nothing. It's the original state, the default and starting point. The real question is, What causes #prosperity?
