Both socialism and capitalism are useless if humans in charge are corrupt.
But those in power will always try to remain in power and they will use pseudo-moral issues and pseudo-technical issues to divide the population.
Knowing that no human is perfect, and no tool is perfect, what other things could we be doing to stimulate dialog as opposed to screaming?
If the solution is not outside but within us, how can we improve ourselves to be better users of these tools?
Will we consolidate our human development or will we retract to our My-Nation-First citadels? Our techno-feuds, a skyscraper in a slummed planet.
When we talk about sustainability we are not talking about the sustainability of the planet but of human civilization as we know it.
We all want the same thing, we just disagree on what's the best way to get there.
And while we discuss the path, we move in a direction than none of us wanted, except those already in power.
If there's only one planet that holds the cure to our diseases, that can sustain life as we know it, then finding a way for our human civilization to live in peace and coexist with our ecosystem becomes imperative.
But who's to say how this should work?
A big part of the divisiveness seems to come from the fact there are multiple ways to tackle this issue and multiple ways to interpret the results. Who's to say what is right?
We think that Bitcoin could have a great role to play in this human odyssey but we also think it can be misused like every tool.
We want to contribute by suggesting that if you are not confused right now, you're probably wrong.
Art was now modern, electricity powered our engines and illuminated our streets. Horses were replaced by automobiles and finally, we could fly.
But again each group of humans felt superior and modern states were dedicated to developing tools of war.
Soon enough we were developing machinery and the industrial revolution would change the world, bringing with it a set of moral principles meant to enlighten humanity.
The printing press allowed news and knowledge to travel faster and live longer.
Modern humans indistinguishable from you and I now navigated the seas, we traded, we went to the theater, listened to music, we discussed politics and developed the tools of democracy, geometry, astronomy, mathematics, and more.
Democracy is a great tool but it's not perfect.
Capitalism and free markets are great tools but they can also be corrupted.
There is no single tool, any technological innovation that will redeem humanity from its sins.
Agreeing with the statements above doesn't mean you agree on a carbon tax or mandated paper straws.
You may disagree with a proposed solution without denying there is a problem.
You may disagree with the vaccination schedule but not deny the science.
When we created Agora, one of our main goals was to educate ourselves and to help educate our audience, by organizing knowledge for easier access.
We don't have the answers but we think that only by working together we can keep ourselves in check.
No single person or technology will lift humanity out of its cave.
The battle between darkness and light is happening inside us.
The next step was developing a written language. In 3k years we went from the Sumerian cuneiform alphabet to Hebrew, Greek and Latin. Languages still alive today.
History can now be written. Learning does not rely on spoken word story telling.
By the 1500's, Venice was the capital of the world. It brought together trading goods from as far away as China, India and Brazil.
Modern commerce, currencies, trading agreements and a rebirth of art and technique started enriching our lives.
Please read this thread from bottom to top (?!) and let us know how you think we can all work both individually and as a society, to make sure that not only we are developing tech but also improving ourselves.
Live long and prosper, from Agora.
We learned how to build roads, bridges, aqueducts, how to organize and mobilize ourselves to defend against enemies, how to establish common grounds with neighboring nations.
But religion started to dominate our lives and obscurantism took over.
In Europe, the counting of time belonged to the church and most of that ancient knowledge would have been lost if it wasn't for the Islamic culture further developing our tech stack.
We now had advanced algebra and could navigate the globe.
No longer nomads hunting and gathering, we could make provisions for winter and dry seasons.
Settlements allowed our population to grow and to live longer healthier lives.
It enabled the first cities to be built to last longer than our lifespans.
If we were to discuss policies not politics on national TV, I'm sure we could find common ground and agree more than disagree.
That would allow for change to happen, which threatens the status quo.
Now we are creating bitcoin and going back to space but once again, religion, nationalism and divisiveness are taking over.
We went to the moon, we created a settlement in space and we explored and experimented with new political, societal and economic models.
In 100 years we went from the telegraph and radio to television, personal computers, smartphones and the internet.
This post is not a virtue signal, it's not meant to be patronizing. But in the heat of the moment, trying to have our voices heard, sometimes we miss the forest for the trees and it's important to take a step back and look at the big picture.
