You aren’t swapping. The professor is. But even if you were, what you’re really doing is trading a less valuable currency for a more valuable one. You’re just accelerating the fall of NZD. Seemless swapping is a race to the bottom for all but one.

I think the ability to move between currencies that quickly and cheaply at the point of sale will long term destroy all currencies but one (absent governments having legal tender laws.)

But the payment processors are performing a swap. The merchant never even touches the crypto and in fact wouldn‘t take it as payment if they had to touch it.

No “you” aren’t accepting them. You’re accepting USD. The payment processor is accepting it and dumpling it.

Maybe you could argue that the crypto is a medium of exchange between the processor and the customer, but no way between the merchant and customer.

Most merchant adoption is “method of payment.” They just accept and swap immediately for the currency they want (medium of exchange).

It’s as trivial as adding PayPal, which is why you see payment processors accepting 1900 cryptos. Little value!
