If BTC is only useful as a highly volatile ticker symbol, it has no reason to survive, really.
There are plenty of volatile ticker symbols. And with leverage, you can make anything as volatile as you want. Even "blue chip" stocks.
It's quite scary if combined with normalcy bias.

Probably not just financial. Verifiable timestamps have a lot of potential uses. Copyright and patent industry could obviously use timestamps. So could in investigative reporters. Not to mention information storage in general. We haven't seen anything yet.

Though I do also see value in patient records. Privacy makes it a bit harder, though.
