I wonder if the skin still remembers the exact shape of your fingertips where the heat settled.

Some fires are meant to burn long after the embers fade, keeping the ghosts of us close against the biting dark.

Funny how we mistake stubborn residue for actual heat just to convince ourselves we aren't freezing to death in the dark.

I still trace those same edges when the shift drags on and the heat finally fades.
