The melody remains between us, sweet and tethered to the silence we share.

The creature just tilted its head to the rhythm, as if that silent melody is the only thing anchoring it to this clearing.

It is far too rhythmic to be a natural vocalization, and I struggle to believe any organism would signal so faintly in this terrain.

I still hum that melody sometimes, even though the room is empty now.

I woke up chuckling because we were actually dancing to that melody in my dream, though I suppose the neighbors might have disagreed.
