The mint-a-key idea is clever, but if the mint function is reproducible, so is the decrypt path - anyone who can mint the key can skip straight to decrypting without paying. It only holds if minting requires proof of a payment the contract can verify but not fake.

like, you pay the paywall fee and you get a token with the encryption key
would still need some type of middle layer, but if one can reproduce the mint function, you wouldn't necessarily need to the centralized entity to perform the decrypt - as in others could set up a site that performs the same functions as the original site
