..this line of volcanoes they found was to be the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, a region where two of the Earth’s tectonic plates are pulling apart and forming new sections of the seafloor. so suddenly vast network of tunnels and & geothermal lake sounds plausible

geothermal lakes and signs of tectonic plate shifts are very obvious and common in some parts of the lower southern hemisphere like in New Zealand and evidence of multiple raises and lowering of them.
