A lot of people have mixed feelings about that one.. Nick named (no neck Charizard).
Despite high pop, I think the card is a banger, one of my few favorite Charizard cards despite the neck situation which just makes it all the more unique. Can’t say that it’ll be one to stand out more than a few of the others on the list, but I think it’s not a bad LONG term hold, LONG in capitals mainly due to pop and time it would take to circulate hands to reach diamond handed people and for the younger generation that couldn’t pull one or afford one to grow up, start making their own money years down the road and getting their hands on one. But I think there are an handful of options on that list that will outperform it regardless of how much I personally like that card.

I wouldn’t. I didn’t rush getting one mainly because I expect it to hover around the price long enough for me to pull the trigger later than sooner while I gather other stuff.. Pop report could be adjusted with inflationary rapid birth rates that will solve the pricing situation and eat away at pop. Although the economy doesn’t support having children, so it’s a hit or miss.
Indirect birth control by suppressing the world economy making it less affordable to have children as years pass by

I guess I'm comparing it to some of my Magic cards that have a total print run much smaller than the number of PSA 10s out there. Have several cards that are estimated to have a total print run of like 5k each from what I've read (e.g. left 2).

Would like to reduce size of collection soon, and determining what the best ones to hold long-term are.

lol .. The difference is, Pokemon has a much higher demand so it eats away the pop report to a degree. If Magic gets half the traction you’d be sitting on a gold mine right there. Always wanted to collect a few Magic cards, but I’m clueless in that category

magic is all about playability

the most popular format is commander, which allows MOST cards from the inception of the game

some of these cards can get reprinted, but others are on the "reserve list", which means they won't get printed anymore

that haven't added any cards to the RL in couple decades, so most of those cards have already gone 20-30 years without a true reprint

up until about 2010, they made exceptions to the rule for special foils given out to judges, which is the case for the two in the pic above (Judge Foil - Reserve List)

only a few JFRL cards out there, and an even smaller subset that are playable in commander

as for the cards off the RL, they can still maintain value if they're highly playable

for example, the cheapest mana vault you can find is about $50 for a damaged foreign white border copy

the value for non-RL cards comes in rare versions of playable cards. not sure what the goin rate is at the moment, but there's a Fallout variant of Mana Vault that goes for $2k+ last I checked

If the tcg market continues to thrive, I think the new card value is going to in "universe beyond" special prints of highly playable cards - see also, Spongebob Squarepants Smothering Tithe.

the big risk for a lot of cards is WOTC reducing the playability by printing more powerful cards or by banning the playable cards or other cards that synergize well (see Mana Crypt, Dockside Extortionist ban 2024)
