I disagree with Neitzsche on the herd mentality though. I think Neitzsche was talking about a domesticated herd. The market is a wild herd.

So using the "herd" metaphor, a wild herd doesn't turn against the instincts of life?

No in a wild herd everyone helps each other to survive better. Leaders do not command. They predict where the rest of the herd will go. If they're right their portfolio grows in value. Then they can buy bigger antlers and teach the rest about survival.
