The psychedelic experience seems to be located at the border between the mental and spiritual realms.

An interesting but dangerous place to be.

If psychedelics were a purely spiritual "technology", they would consistently produce a reduction of ego-supremacy, but they don't. They reduce the ego of some and further inflate the ego of others.

Go see your local shaman for evidence.

This isn't to say that psychedelics are good or bad, they are what they are, but they most certainly aren't a reliable cure for our spiritual ills.

I always hated the psychonaut term “ego death” no ego is dying, nor do I believe that’s even possible.

Instead I internally refer to it an ego disillusion. Psychedelics can cause it very sharp and sudden change to the ego, which as you say isn’t necessarily good or bad.

Personally I don’t find psychedelics to be very spiritual. I think a lot of that comes from the set, setting, and mindset of the user

The term spiritual is extremely vague, by nature, but the increase of depth, the access to the symbolic level, or the addition of an entire dimension of meaning that psychedelics can cause seem to classify, imho.
