This one's for the Torus/FE crowd!

Select any active aircraft and it will highlight the route being flown in real-time, including any altitude changes along with some basic details of the aircraft — such as heading (direction), altitude, ground speed, distance flown, and departure airport.

I believe this is the first Azimuthal Equidistant style, interactive map with aircraft tracking & positioning overlays, as of course — there were no libraries or assets really available to use, or at least from what I could find.

It required combining quite a few different concepts, some rather interesting mathematics and conversions, positioning plotting points, some pretty snazzy lighting and animation effects.

Using a combination of both a day/night versions of the map overlaid on top of one another allows for a real-time day/night display, carefully calculated to "fade" one of the layers to show the correct locations in darkness, whilst others are in daylight.

If the underlying AE map itself is too bright to visualise the aircraft fully, you can toggle 50% opacity with the button ("Map 100%") in the bottom left corner, which should aid visibility a little.

The animated purple lines flowing both above and below the map surface represent an energetic toroidal field.

All flight data is still recorded on the blockchain, as per the "regular" version: https://airchive.uk/

It is best viewed/used on desktop, but should remain functional on mobile.

This looks fun, are there any flights currently going from anywhere south of the equator to somewhere else south of the equator without heading north of the equator?

Thank you, sir!

Good question! I haven't been monitoring the actual paths so much, as still working on ensuring the trails are actually accurate (they seem to be pretty damn close!) — although, the custom engine does "fill empty voids" when an aircraft 'drops signal' so to speak. If there is a 1000-mile section that perhaps wasn't picked up, the engine calculates the most likely path, which is why you might see "brighter" sections of the trail, that is often to highlight that.

I will definitely get around to adding more S-Hemisphere based flights on though, as certainly want to monitor a few N-S and S-N flight routes myself! Perhaps I will also add some better metrics and 'check-points' in future too, making it a bit easier to actually see the locations/routes in text-form too.

Thank you kindly! Still have a bit of work to do on it here and there, and need to monitor it for a couple of weeks to check for accuracies (since I had to build a completely custom engine) — but it would be cool if users could pay to maintain a specific flight route/aircraft.

At some point, I will work on compiling more long distance N-to-S-Hemisphere flights and add those on as a primary focus.
