Wild idea: whoever is leaving BTC is going private and doesn't want price to go up too suddenly and rapidly, or have BTC price go down too much either.

Switching coins with big money is an endeavor that requires strategic considerations.

Sure, BSV has already won and whatnot, but I'd be surprised if in ten years we weren't all thinking back to this monent in tine and how cheaply and easily we could have acquired privacy coins.

I think there's a serious risk that true "privacy" (aka anonymity) coins will become illegal to exchange for fiat or any liquid asset denominated in fiat in most jurisdictions. The idea that you can transact wholly outside the eyes of the law is never going to fly with lawmakers. This is one place where The Self-Destructive Shithead Who Apparently Invented Bitcoin has it right IMO. Privacy in small transactions similar to what you have with physical cash is the goal we should be shooting for and BSV already gives you that if you don't recycle addresses.

This risk is real, no doubt.

Would be good to have privacy coins before they are cut off and you have to buy them for cash or cigarettes in a park.

It's all a mess. We should be using hard digital p2p electronic cash for everything for years now. Instead bitcoin was crippled and split.

Meanwhile dystopian gov-coins are ready to be introduced, it seems.

I can't see how privacy coins aren't a good bet in this situation.

In a dystopian future the ability to transact privately clearly becomes increasingly desirable. But if we're talking about bets I assume that ultimately we're talking about value of the privacy token vs a basket of goods say. Black markets and gray markets historically have been denominated in currencies the transacting parties can frictionlessly use out in the open as well. If an anonymous token can only be used on the black market I believe that seriously caps its upside because it undercuts its standing as a universal medium of exchange. It becomes a "crime coin" that no one can legitimately justify owning unless they're active in the black market. I could be way off base about this but this is why I don't stack privacy coins.

For now we are in a transition phase. Nobody knows exactly how things will play out.

All the dark money that exists in the world must move somehow during this transition. Governments may even have an interest in allowing certain (controlled) alternatives to the new financial system. And be it just to move and hold their own black budgets, corruption funds etc.

Good point, say BSV mooned. We wouldn't want BTC to be unstable and crashing might never be able to swap and get out etc.

There's a saying that once the market capitalisation matured to a certain extent. Large selling wouldn't tank the price so much as there's more absorption in place.
