I mean the concepts of scale and distance is what people forget when looking at aerial photos. any curved object can appear flat at relevant distances

Go outside and look at a horizon, then look at a map and compare that horizons distance to the rest of the map with curvature in mind. Its just an abstract thinking skill issue
