I am most surprised that my cats didn't even budge from their napping positions and no dogs in the area barked. I kinda expected the pets do be a little more upset by it.

I was on the 11th floor in an apartment tokyo 2011 when the big earthquake hit and the cats which were on the balcony all screamed crazy several seconds before it kicked in hard.

I suppose this earthquake wasn't large enough to alarm the neighborhood cats and dogs. I read somewhere many animals can hear a high pitched noise seconds beforehand- perhaps that only happens with big quakes
