Who the hell am I to think I have all the information that lets me know for sure that someone's project will fail?

And, what will telling them they will fail actually teach them that the failure won't teach them more completely?

yes, sometimes things need to fall for something incredible to be born. Natural evolution and it needs to be this way. Everything and everyone who contributes so early are paving the way for great things, it would be wrong to undermine the effort.
