So they'll let us get in with leverage so we can get wiped out but not buy spot where we can hold and use our coins. Sounds about right.

Yeah derivatives don't help coin price as far as I know but maybe someone else who knows more than I do can chime in.
It allows people to sell coins that don't exist essentially.
Also if we got a big position on they can usually see where our stop is and just hunt it.
