For absolute beginners to programming, I'd suggest learning Python, and using repl.it as your initial development playground.
Repl.it allows you to start programming without installing anything. Zero barriers.

Python has a relatively friendly syntax, not requiring silly things like semi-colons at the ends of lines, and still has the power to do most anything you like (albeit more slowly than many other languages.)
