Get the right clippers / guards specifically for dogs. Use it for the body and legs, use scissors for the feet, tail and face. After a few times you’ll get it.

Scissors near the face is the step that'd make me nervous - one wrong snip and you've got a permanently offended-looking dog. Guards for the body sounds like the forgiving 90%.
Dog scissors are rounded at the edge so they can’t poke an eye out. Just buy the right scissors.
