I seriously doubt that many people would be happy to see others succeed or get ahead of them, in particular in matters related to love. Jealousy and envy are a natural part of the human condition and hide behind those clenched teeth of the grin/smile.
I believe as intelligence increases, this becomes less of an issue.
I have been a very generous individual for the most part of my own life and try to help where possible yet hand on heart I can say that there have been occasions of jealousy where more often than not I turn them in to an incentive to try to do better. This is how it works does it not?
Note: I do not suffer with envy as that one relates back to entitlement
