I'd like to hear your thoughts on this:
I see two basic ethics:
Anarchist ethics and spiritual ethics.
The former denounces violence, the latter all forms of force, even self-defense.
I seem to be oscillating between the two and see advantages in both.

I would rather be murdered than become a murderer. That's for sure.
But without self-defense we basically hand the world over to evil and sometimes I think that while I see the beauty in pacifism, we are having a material experience for a reason...
yeah it's a passage that surely inspires deep thought. For me anyway. I will mull on what you said here a bit. Gotta run for now
...and maybe part of it is to draw the line somewhere in order to not let evil have its way.
But then again, l see the otherworldly greatness in not even defending yourself.
That's why I oscillate.
What are your thoughts on that?
Strengthening (de-cluttering) the mind helps w/oscillation. I look at oscillation as an 'alchemical' process that eventually creates internal balance. The more I clear my mind, the less I oscillate/wonder what I might do in any situation. Conserves energy.
Great teachers use metaphor, analogy, riddle to teach- in this passage replace country with person. In harmony, she creates, in disharmony she defends imaginary enemies in her mind using up precious energy. Clarity of mind knows right action.
