Haha. Shit. Gonna start getting memed.
Twetch + 21e8
- We should not underestimate the brand and name recognition of Streamanity. It would have been confusing and difficult to try and push yet another brand on a new video platform when we really should and are focused on building RelayX, FloatSV, Dimely.
- Had we not bought it, possibly another company would have eg. a competing wallet and furthered their lead over RelayX. In the two months since the deal, another acquirer could have improved it, making a competing platform less valuable.
- It is unclear what would have happened to the library of 4,000 videos had an acquirer not stepped in. Some of the videos contain incredibly valuable history of the past two years of Bitcoin. As they say, you can’t roll back time and press replay.
- I have an overly optimistic view of Bitcoin, so it was also conceivable an entirely new platform could have been launched by someone else in the time between deal and restart.
With Streamanity in hand, we had optionality to respond appropriately.
- The initial plan was not to rebuild it. It was upon proper examination post acquisition that the infrastructure and the way it was constructed would not be proper for future extensions. Also partly, our team got more excited after hence the rebuild.
Good question and many peers I greatly respect have suggested the same. You may still be correct but I will expand into the thought process right or wrong in a thread below:
A lot of elitists who are more “technical” will say this is nonsense, get defensive and say I am being sensational.
That technical argument while true, won’t stop the decline of startup worshipping.
Change happens at the margins.
That’s with a broken, neglected version of Streamanity. Those numbers will 10x on the restart.
There will be as many Bitcoin startups as there are videos on YouTube.
If you’re still looking for a killer app, you’re not understanding that the killer app is the ability to switch apps or wallets as if it’s all one and the same.
Just as miners switch to mine profitable chains, Bitcoiners will switch to whatever platforms, jobs, funds or bounties that provide the highest potential to earn - whether they like it or not!
If someone from the future told you that Twetch ultimately failed, what in your opinion would have been the contributing factors? It’s a productive mental exercise I do with my own projects. I’ve asked the same on PowPing
If someone from the future told you that Twetch captured >1Bn users, what in your opinion would have been the reasons for its success?
Brian absolutely did. Watch his 2013 interview with Kevin Rose of Digg. Just had to contort ultimately due to I can only guess VC / SF Culture / Regulatory / Internal Pressure. Bitcoin didn’t scale in time.
Building bitcoin is building the Great Wall and Pyramids of our times. Thousands of years later, people will still see the proof of work.
That maps to Likes, Posts, Branches.
Fixing. It has to do with a mistake to allow no login payments in this patched version of @14352

30%+ more profit, web apps getting much better native support and better privacy trust. Maybe times are finally going back to it's best initial idea; "Develop your own web apps that will work on the new platform." - Steve Jobs
