This was a really important discussion. Dash's incentives were well-aligned, but a seemingly minor element in how coins are created could have hidden this and made the whole system a lot less efficient. We're working on changing that now.

This is one of the biggest lessons we (hopefully) learned after the 2017 Bitcoin split: miners largely want to mine on whatever chain makes them the most profits. They use their hashrate for making money, largely not for voting. Great discussion.
