Exactly, nothing is a perfect costly signal in this universe, but you can have better signals that others on average. I certainly hope we find better ways to signal value!

contribution to society cannot be defined by words. That's why we need honest money, it allows us to create a market for defining what it is through peer interactions. If money is honest & someone earns more it means that he contributes more to society.

ASICs are used in some parts of the world to generate heat for near buildings & then the silver and precious metal are extracted. You get value other than the signal in both. Yes you may get less in ASICs making the signal better, but still not perfect.

you get something from a sacrifice which is the very meaning of the world, otherwise it's called a waste. Opportunity cost is a meta-investment, a more intelligent one, but you still do it to gain something. It's just meant to be harder to fake.

good point. Myths reveal deeper truth than what they picture, so in a sense they are historical & natural, not in the pictured form, but in the deeper one. Myth & Reason are complementary. And throwing away the myth with the cult is a mistake.
