I'm encountering the same thing broadcasting to miners with the newest node version. Working with nChain to try and resolve it.
We're seeing it at about 50 descendants, though nobody has yet told me what the cause is or if there is anything I can do differently in structuring my transactions to reach the new, longer chain lengths.
I do know that you will reach the old chain limits if you use a tx fee of less than 0.5 sats/byte, but we are not doing that.
The impression I'm getting is that my issue has taken TAAL and nChain folks by surprise.
