No, you're suggesting gravity can be consistent across a flat plane, it's a really inefficient shape, the edges would be torn off until you end up with a spherical object held together by gravity that is roughly equal on the surface.

On a serious note, if the earth is flat, the gravity would be very uneven, this would allow the atmosphere to escape into the vacuum of space at the edges. Gravity does vary across the surface of a globe/egg but much less than it would for a flat plane. What's your explanation for this?
