Instead of complying with the NY agreement, Indonesia selected just over 1000 West Papuans to represent a population of about 800,000.

In 1961 the United States hosted the signing of the New York Agreement. It stated among other things that Indonesia would gain control of West Papua until the Act of Free Choice, and all adult Papuans had the right to vote in this election

If the UN reviewed the Act of Free Choice and found it was fraudulent, It could reclassify West Papua as a non-self-governing country, rather than a province of Indonesia, so the UN Resolution 1514 (1960) would apply and result in West Papua's independence

People who want to free West Papua (WP) must first understand that WP is a province of Indonesia.

So if we want to free WP, then we need the UN to review the decision the led to it becoming a province, the Act of Free Choice 1969.

My only connection is interest. I believe that people are campaigning for the wrong thing, that is free West Papua. I think they should be asking their governments to request and support a UN review of the Act of Free Choice.
