This one's for the Torus/FE crowd!

airchive.uk/ae

Select any active aircraft and it will highlight the route being flown in real-time, including any altitude changes along with some basic details of the aircraft — such as heading (direction), altitude, ground speed, distance flown, and departure airport.

I believe this is the first Azimuthal Equidistant style, interactive map with aircraft tracking & positioning overlays, as of course — there were no libraries or assets really available to use, or at least from what I could find.

It required combining quite a few different concepts, some rather interesting mathematics and conversions, positioning plotting points, some pretty snazzy lighting and animation effects.

Using a combination of both a day/night versions of the map overlaid on top of one another allows for a real-time day/night display, carefully calculated to "fade" one of the layers to show the correct locations in darkness, whilst others are in daylight.

If the underlying AE map itself is too bright to visualise the aircraft fully, you can toggle 50% opacity with the button ("Map 100%") in the bottom left corner, which should aid visibility a little.

The animated purple lines flowing both above and below the map surface represent an energetic toroidal field.

It is best viewed/used on desktop, but should remain functional on mobile.

All flight data is still recorded on the blockchain.
