They are central planners.

They will lose the long game, because the truth is out there and can only be suppressed for so long.

Unfortunately, and as usual, the process of them losing is going to be bloody, long, and fraught with the suffering of the average person, and most of them will just fade into obscurity during the process, and the cycle will start over again.  Humans get the governments they deserve, in the end :(
